Bondi, Putnam Campaigns Gear Up
Holding a major “hometown fundraiser” in Tampa Tuesday night, Bondi was on the defensive for asking Gov. Rick Scott to delay the execution of a death row inmate so it wouldn’t conflict with the political event. On Monday, Bondi called the delay a mistake, an unusual admission for one of the state’s GOP leaders and a possible future candidate for governor or the U.S. Senate. Putnam, a reliable conservative, has also used his office aggressively to raise his profile, trying to broaden his appeal by taking on consumer and school nutrition issues. A former state lawmaker and congressional leader, Putnam has already exhibited his campaign prowess, raising nearly $600,000 for his re-election through July 1.
