Student Group Inspired by Jane Goodall Needs 'Green Thumbs'
A new USF student organization, inspired by legendary anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall, is trying to introduce local elementary school students to science - and they could use your help.
The "Roots and Shoots" program was created by Goodall and a dozen students in Tanzania in 1991. Since then, the organization, which takes on environmental issues, has grown to more than 150-thousand members worldwide.
Biology major Karena Nguyen says they're looking for a few good "green thumbs" to give them a hand.
"Our group is small and if we have four or five people, it might not turn out as well as we'd like, so anyone who ever has planted before even, who has any specialty in gardening would be awesome," Nguyen said. "In addition to just wanting to lend a helping hand, that's all we really want."
The planting will take place at Pizzo Elementary on the USF campus at 11:30 Wednesday morning. For more information, contact Nguyen at 763-267-9208 or at email@example.com.
