The current Thanksgiving travel season is projected to be the busiest time to fly with more than 26.8 million passengers - a new record, according to the Transportation Safety Administration - flying between November 22 and December 2.

TSA agent Robert Henry jumped to his death inside the Orlando International Airport in February. Afterward, agents came forward to say Henry was bullied at work and that Transportation Security Administration has a toxic work environment.

Security checkpoints at Florida's busiest airport were brought to a temporary halt for several hours on Saturday when some panicked passengers rushed past a checkpoint after a TSA officer fatally jumped from a hotel balcony inside the airport.

The percentage of TSA airport screeners missing work has hit 10 percent as the partial government shutdown stretches into its fifth week. 

As the partial government shutdown continues into its third week, federal workers in Florida are applying for unemployment to make up for lost pay.

Florida airports are helping federal workers who aren't getting paid during the government shutdown by offering free food, holding a food drive and opening a food bank.

Tampa International Airport was one of the worst offenders last year in terms of the number of firearms confiscated from fliers.

The federal Transportation Security Administration said in 2017, 97 firearms were found at Tampa International Airport, ranking sixth in the nation for firearms found.

As travelers head to airports during the busy holiday week, airport security officials have a message: Don’t try to bring your guns on the plane.

Gun confiscations at Tampa International Airport security checkpoints have been rising, and if the numbers stay high, the airport could become among the top three in the nation for firearms seizures.

Media outlets report that last year, Transportation Security Administration officers discovered 49 guns on passengers or in their carry-on luggage at the Tampa airport.

TSA Tries to Relax Rules for Adults 75+

The Transportation Security Administration  is moving away from a "one size fits all approach" for airport screenings-- adults 75 and older are getting a break and being allowed to keep their shoes and light jackets on. They can largely avoid pat downs too at the Orlando International Airport. 

 It's like the procedure now used for children 12 and younger.

It's all a test program TSA has launched in four airports across the country including Chicago's O'Hare International, Denver International, Orlando International, and Portland International Airport.
