More than 100 million gallons of wastewater flowed onto St. Petersburg's streets and into Tampa Bay when Tropical Storms Colin and Hermine hit last year. The city is proposing drilling six new injection wells to make sure that doesn't happen again.

When the sewer system in St. Petersburg became overwhelmed by rain from Tropical Storm Colin the city had to pump sewage into Tampa Bay.

St. Pete Beach had the same problem and pumped sewage into Boca Ciega Bay.

Tropical Storm Colin Still Causing Flooding, Road Closures

Tropical Storm Colin left Florida early Tuesday but it continued to cause problems on roads around the Tampa Bay area throughout the day.

Lingering rain from the storm caused flooding that closed roads Tuesday morning and winds kept the Sunshine Skyway closed until around noon.

Tropical Storm Colin Brings Rain, Flooding To Bay Area

Tropical Storm Colin dumped several inches of rain across the Tampa Bay area.

A tropical storm warning and flood watch was in effect through Monday.

Rain totals were expected to range from 4 to 8 inches near the Tampa-St. Petersburg metro area, tapering to 2 inches further inland and to the east.
