Super Bowl 54 ended less than a month ago, but plans for next year’s big game in Tampa continue. One sector where activity is picking up is with local businesses that want to work at the game and surrounding events.

The long wait is over for Kansas City. The Chiefs are Super Bowl champions for the first time in 50 years.

After a slow start in Super Bowl LIV, the Chiefs pulled off yet another double-digit comeback in the playoffs.

The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, navigated the San Francisco 49ers' defensive pressure by the fourth quarter. His two long touchdown passes took the Chiefs to a 31-20 victory Sunday over the 49ers.

The Super Bowl is at Hard Rock Stadium, but the real party is 15 miles south at Bayfront Park.

That popular stretch of green space that abuts the bay is the home of Super Bowl Live, where concerts, food festivals and water shows will entertain the hundreds of thousands of tourists who will soon pack our hotels.

On the first Sunday in February, 50,000 football fans, members of the media and others will descend upon Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium for Super Bowl LIV. And they’re bringing their appetites with them—which makes Dayanny De La Cruz the true MVP in our book.

Restaurants, bars and hotels are gearing up for a potential surge in business from visitors ahead of Super Bowl LIV. The primetime game at Hard Rock stadium and the series of events leading up to it are expected to generate millions of dollars in revenues for the region. Miami’s Super Bowl Host Committee hasn’t come up with an official number, but projections from last year’s game in Atlanta from the city’s metro chamber were around $400 million in revenues. But that number could be overinflated.

The song said "it never rains in Southern California," but recent heavy downpours in Los Angeles have led the National Football League to switch the host city for the Super Bowl in 2021 from L.A. to Tampa.

The NFL passed over Tampa again in awarding Super Bowls to Atlanta, Miami and Los Angeles, three cities that made significant financial investments in new stadiums or recently upgraded an existing one.

Atlanta will host the game in 2019, followed by Miami (2020) and Los Angeles (2021), it was announced Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings.

Tampa was among the finalists for 2019 and 2020. The city has not hosted a Super Bowl since 2009. The city and the Buccaneers recently set aside $100 million to upgrade Raymond James Stadium.

Making Sense of Super Bowl Commercials

The Super Bowl has become more than just a football game. It's now America's annual media orgy.

After the big game, people are talking as much about the commercials as they are the score.

Why? Kelly McBride of the Poynter Institute's "Sense-Making Project" said it's because commercials in the big game have become a product unto themselves.

The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8 to win Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Sunday night, the first Super Bowl victory in the team's history.

The game got off to an odd start on the first play from scrimmage when Broncos center Manny Ramirez snapped the ball past quarterback Peyton Manning, who was walking up to the line and didn't have his hands ready. That set the tone for the trouncing the Broncos would receive over the course of the night at the hands of the voracious Seahawks.

League sources have told the Miami Herald that the Dolphins have formally applied to host Super Bowl 52 at this week’s NFL fall meetings, held in Washington. Roughly a half-dozen cities are expected to apply, including Tampa. From that pool, two or three finalists will likely emerge, kicking off a months-long formal bid process.

The Super Bowl is the Last Gasp of Old Media

The Super Bowl may be the most watched TV event of the year, but in this multi-media age it's also the last gasp of old media.

Kelly McBride of the Poynter Institute's "Sense Making Project" says that while the Super Bowl continues to draw bigger and bigger TV audiences, it's just not the way people experience media anymore.
