All season long, it seemed inevitable.

Yankees-Astros for the American League pennant.

Houston made it happen Thursday night as Gerrit Cole pitched another playoff masterpiece and the Astros jumped to a quick lead, turning back the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1 in the deciding Game 5 of their AL Division Series.

The Tampa Bay Rays are heading to Houston for a deciding Game 5 Thursday night with the Astros as watch parties around the region gear up.

The team’s playoff run also renewed questions about a new ballpark after St. Pete officials gave the green light for talks to resume across the bay.

Kevin Kiermaier hit a go-ahead, three-run homer as Tampa Bay teed off on Zack Greinke, and the Rays backed another clutch playoff pitching performance by Charlie Morton to beat the Houston Astros 10-3 Monday and cut their AL Division Series deficit to 2-1.

Fans still have the opportunity to see if the Tampa Bay Rays can stay alive today in their American League Division Series against the Houston Astros.

According to the Rays’ website, limited numbers of tickets remain in nearly all of the 300-level upper-deck sections of Tropicana Field for Monday’s Game 3 at 1:05 p.m. against the Houston Astros – the Rays’ first playoff game at the Trop since 2013. Limited seating is also available in certain lower levels.

The Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Houston Astros 6-2 in Game 1 of the American League Divisional playoff round Friday.  

With the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m., many fans were resigned to catching score updates in between meetings. But some gathered just across the street from Tropicana Field at Ferg’s Sports Bar in St. Petersburg to show their support.
