Members of the Pasco County Planning Commission on Monday approved a $75 million solar farm to be built on land previously zoned for agricultural use near Dade City.

The solar plant, which will add around 50 megawatts to the power grid by the end of the year, is part of an $850 million plan by Tampa Electric to create 10 solar plants by 2021.

The Pasco County Commission voted unanimously Tuesday afternoon to move forward with a plan to create a navigation center for the homeless.

But the location of the resource center, which helps homeless people find jobs, housing and other necessities, has been contentious in the community. Critics of the plan say the proposed location at the old Boys & Girls Club building on Little Road and Youth Lane in New Port Richey is too close to their homes and businesses.
