Law enforcement officials are continuing a search near the USF Tampa campus and New Tampa area for a suspect in a series of home invasions and violent incidents Thursday night.

The suspect was reportedly tracked down to the woods north of 42nd Street and south of Amberly Drive in Tampa. Law enforcement said deep water in the woods is making the search difficult, but their dogs can track suspects through the water.

"The thing about the water is you've gotta come out somewhere," Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department Spokesman Major J.R. Burton told the Tampa Bay Times.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's officials say the incidents began around 11 p.m. when a man forced his way into an apartment at Cambridge Woods Apartments near 42nd Street north of East Fletcher Avenue. He reportedly bound four men and sexually assaulted four women inside the apartment. He told the victims not to call the police for half an hour, which they reportedly did out of fear.

Hillsborough County Deputy Douglas Duvall saved one man from a sinkhole that developed inside the bedroom of a Seffner home, but another is believed still buried.

Duvall responded to a call about a sinkhole Thursday night. He entered the bedroom as the sinkhole was collapsing - having swallowed up a bed, dress and victim. He said the scene was a little bit scary.

The deputy was able to rescue one man - reaching down and pulling him out by the hand. The man, according to Duvall, was attempting to find his brother in the rubble of the sinkhole.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is asking the locals to watch out for anyone taking over vacant homes during the Republican National Convention.

Hotels are booked and authorities say the thousands of protesters will be looking for a place to stay and may become squatters at homes that have been left empty.

Sherriff's Detective Larry McKinnon says there are at least four red flags for squatters that you should watch for:

1) Numerous people suddenly moving into a vacant home or business.

2) Tents erected within backyards or uncommon areas.
