The race to replace retiring U.S. Representative Dennis Ross seems to be a dead heat just days before the election.

Florida House of Representatives

The Florida governor, lieutenant governor and Cabinet members wouldn't be able to accept political contributions while the Legislature is in session under a bill moving through the House.

A Florida Democrat wants to impose the same fundraising restrictions legislators face each session on the state’s cabinet officials.

Florida’s Speaker of the House wants to the state to stop funding political campaigns with taxpayer money. But an election law expert says public financing is vital to diversifying the ballot.

Tuesday is the second annual "Give Day Tampa Bay."

The event is a 24-hour online fundraiser that starts at midnight and lasts until midnight on Tuesday. Last year, 385 non-profit organizations participated and the event raised over $1 million. This year, 550 non-profits are participating and organizers are hoping to exceed the amount raised last year.

An investigation by the Tampa Bay Times and The Center for Investigative Reporting found the Kids Wish Network spends only about 3 cents of every dollar it takes in on helping dying children and their families. That much money going to professional solicitation companies to get donations is why the Florida-based charity is at the top of the list of America's 50 worst charities.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk has been canceled in seven locations, including Tampa Bay, after the organization lost some of its financial support and find less-expensive ways to raise money. As the Tampa Bay Times reports, the non-profit came under fire last year after it announced it would stop awarding grants to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer education and screening.
