Attorney General Pam Bondi adamantly defended herself Wednesday when questioned about news reports implying she has cozy relationships with out-of-state lobbyists and corporate lawyers.

"No lobbyist, no person, no corporation, no individual, will ever compromise what we do in our office regarding unfair and deceptive trade practices, nor how we protect the consumers in the state of Florida," Bondi told reporters after the state Cabinet meeting. "We will continue to protect the consumers in the state of Florida, and that is not going to change."

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced Saturday it is investigating 2,600 cases handled by a Pensacola-based agency chemist after discovering dozens of instances where prescription pain pills that were seized by police and tested as evidence were swapped with over-the-counter pills.

FDLE Commissioner Gerald Bailey said the chemist handled cases involving 80 law enforcement agencies from 35 counties since he was hired in 2006. Most, but not all, of the cases involved testing drug evidence, though it was not immediately clear how many cases might be compromised.

The attorney for the woman who has accused Florida State University quarterback and Heisman Trophy finalist Jameis Winston of sexual assault is asking Florida's Attorney General to investigate the case. Patricia Carroll says Tallahassee police have yet to fully investigate the charges.

Holding up 248 pages of investigator documents, Carroll says most of the documents refer to her client's phone, text messages and social media account. Just eleven pages focus on the man she accused of sexual assault.

TALLAHASSEE -- Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is challenging a proposal to allow the use of medical marijuana in the state. 

Bondi criticized the proposed amendment in a filing she made Thursday to the Florida Supreme Court. By law, the attorney general asks the court to review proposed amendments.

The Supreme Court could throw out the amendment if it agrees with Bondi.

The Republican attorney general called the amendment misleading. Bondi told the court that if passed by voters the measure would allow marijuana use in limitless situations.
