State lawmakers are considering a bill (HB 1061SB 1042 ) to protect the largest seagrass bed in the Gulf of Mexico. There are 400,000 acres of underwater plants in the Nature Coast, but the coastline of Pasco, Citrus and Hernando counties has not been preserved.


Some Rocky Point residents are fired up about a development plan that could affect one-third of their nine-acre lagoon, just off the Courtney Campbell Causeway in Tampa. They plan to ask Tampa City Council members Thursday not to approve the proposal.

Port Tampa Bay Would Get $9M Under Federal Spending Plan

Port Tampa Bay and two other Florida sea ports moved closer to advancing projects to make harbors deeper, following the release of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spending plan last week.

The plan for spending of discretionary funds approved by Congress, released Wednesday, would provide $9 million to Port Tampa Bay, $17.5 million to JaxPort and $2.8 million for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
