The number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Florida has passed the half million mark.

With Wednesday's report, 502,739 people have tested positive since the start of the pandemic. State health officials reported 5,409 positive tests since Tuesday.

Deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Florida spiked again Tuesday.

The daily figures from the Department of Health shows the deaths of 245 people were reported statewide since Monday, bringing the total dead from the coronavirus to 7,402.

Florida’s daily coronavirus case numbers have shown fewer new positive tests in recent days.

State health officials reported 4,752 new cases Monday, bringing the total of those who’ve tested positive for the virus to 491,884. It was the lowest single-day number of new positive tests since June 23.

The Florida Department of Health reported Sunday that 7,104 people tested positive for the coronavirus since Saturday. It’s the lowest number of new cases reported in a single day since July 6.

That brings the total number of cases statewide to 487,132.

The COVID-19 death toll continues to reach record levels in Florida with Thursday’s report from the Department of Health showing the highest number of deaths recorded in 24 hours to date.

The report shows 253 people have died in the state since Wednesday’s report. The new figure brings the total number of deaths from the virus to 6,586.

According to state health officials, more people died due to complications from COVID-19 since Tuesday's report than during any other 24-hour period since the pandemic began.

It was the second straight day that coronavirus-related deaths reached their highest levels since the pandemic began.

The Florida Department of Health reported 139  people have died in the state in the 24-hour period since Tuesday, bringing the statewide total deaths to 5,345. It appears the league is as ready as it can be to play three months of basketball inside a protective bubble near Orlando, Fla., while on the outside coronavirus cases currently soar.

Whether it's a success – at this point all one can do is dust off the oldest of clichés.
