On Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., lifeguards along Clearwater Beach blew their whistles, warning beach goers that a storm was quickly approaching.

The lifeguards then closed the water and left the beach.

Twelve minutes later, lightning struck a man, leaving him and seven others nearby injured.

Red tide arrived in Pinellas County over the weekend with numerous reports of dead fish along beaches from Fort DeSoto to Clearwater.

Two North Carolina teens were struck by lightning as they walked on Clearwater Beach.

In a news release, Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw says 15-year-old Cameron Poimboeuf and 18-year-old Jansen Tabor were on Sand Key on Tuesday evening when a storm rolled in.
