AIDS Group Seeks To Prevent Patient Shift

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has filed a lawsuit in Leon County circuit court arguing that it’s illegal for the state to require patients with HIV and AIDS in Southeast Florida to switch Medicaid managed-care plans by the end of the month.

Judge Rejects State Contracts For HIV And AIDS Care

An administrative law judge recommended Tuesday that the state Agency for Health Care Administration toss aside agreements it signed for treatment of Medicaid beneficiaries with HIV and AIDS in three South Florida counties.

Pointing to an “unprecedented” number of lawsuits, the state Agency for Health Care Administration is asking the Legislature for nearly $1.4 million in additional funding to help pay costs associated with using outside counsel next year, according to a budget document.

AIDS Foundation Protests Over Medicaid Contracting

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration’s headquarters in Tallahassee were the site Thursday of the third demonstration in as many days by supporters of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

The largest nonprofit AIDS health-care provider in the nation is at risk of being blocked out of South Florida’s Medicaid market.

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has filed a workplace safety complaint with the Florida Department of Health, accusing a South Florida-based company of not doing enough to protect its adult film actors, News Service of Florida reports. After successfully lobbying for a California law that mandates condom use in adult films, the group says the adult film industry is moving production to Florida, a state without such a law. This puts performers at a heightened risk for sexually transmitted diseases, the complaint says.
