At 15%, the city's incentive threshold for developers in downtown Sarasota is far lower than what's recommended by the state under the new Live Local Act.

The Live Local Act is designed to accelerate the development of affordable housing, including portions of the law that require local governments to relinquish control over the zoning and land-use process.

Sadaf Knight, Florida Policy Institute's CEO, says the Live Local Act is a step in the right direction, but more still needs to be done to address affordable housing.

The new law, dubbed the Live Local Act, marks a historic investment in affordable housing through a series of tax breaks, incentives for development and a record $811 million in funding.
