The site team assessments in Florida found that the larger VA medical centers in Gainesville, Bay Pines and Lake City need follow up audits based on responses from front-line staff. The Community Based Outpatient Clinic at Eglin, FL also made the list for “further review.”

Overall, the audit of VA appointment scheduling showed nationally that more than 57,000 former military personnel waited more than 90 days to get an appointment.

At the same time, the system handled more than 6 million appointments with 96 percent of those appointments scheduled in 30 days or less.

Auditors also noted that the 14-day target for new appointments was “not only inconsistently deployed throughout the health care system but was not attainable given growing demand for services and lack of planning for resource requirements.”
