Monday Is Florida's Deadline To Register For Primary Election

August 1 is the last day to register for Florida's primary

Monday, Aug. 1 is the last day to register to vote in Florida's Aug. 30 primary.

Florida is a closed primary state, which means you must be a registered Republican to vote for the GOP candidate or you must be registered Democrat to vote for candidates in that party.

In the Aug. 30 primary, Floridians will vote for candidates they would like to see representing their party on the general election ballot in November.

In addition, all voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in nonpartisan races on the ballot--such as school board and supervisor of elections races plus local referendums, and proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 4 regarding solar energy.

So far, more than 633,000 Tampa Bay residents have already requested vote by mail ballots for the primary.

It's an increasingly popular option for voters.

There's still time to get a mail-in ballot. Check with your local elections office for details. The Division of Elections’ Voter Assistance Hotline is 1-866-308-6739.

As a reporter, my goal is to tell a story that moves you in some way. To me, the best way to do that begins with listening. Talking to people about their lives and the issues they care about is my favorite part of the job.
