Family and friends, professional colleagues and political allies of longtime Tampa attorney Bill McBride , 67, will gather Friday for a memorial service.

The former managing partner of Holland and Knight who lost a bid for governor in 2002 against incumbent Gov. Jeb Bush died Saturday. He was with his wife, former Florida CFO Alex Sink, visiting family in North Carolina when he collapsed from a heart attack.

Sink told the Tampa Tribune McBride had suffered previous heart attacks, but this time they were unable to revive him. She told the Miami Herald that she will remember her husband as a champion and advocate for civil rights.

A memorial service is scheduled at the Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W. San Jose Street, Tampa this Friday, December 28, 2012 commencing at 1:00 p.m.

The family will receive friends in the courtyard of the church at the conclusion of the memorial service.
The church is across the street from Plant High School on the Himes Avenue side.
