Jeslyn Santiago is a WUSF/USF Zimmerman School digital news intern for fall 2018.  

Born in Kissimmee, Florida, Jeslyn moved to Tampa to attend the University of South Florida. She is now a junior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in broadcast news.

Jeslyn would like to become a reporter at a major media network.

Tampa Bay counties have completed the machine recounts in the U.S. Senate, Florida Governor and Agriculture Commissioner races, and are now preparing for manual recounts in the Senate and Agriculture Commission races.

Florida’s retail industry is gearing up for this year’s back-to-school sales tax “holiday” on clothes, classroom supplies and computer equipment, with the state offering the tax break for five days .

Beginning Jan. 1, a half-penny increase will go into effect for Hillsborough County sales taxes to benefit the local public school district. Voters approved the referendum by 56 percent in the midterm election.

Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s planned facility is one step along in the approval process. The Sarasota County Commission has signed off on some of the terms to put a new aquarium in Nathan Benderson Park.
