Navigating Downtown Tampa During National Championship Festivities
Whether you’re headed to downtown Tampa for the festivities surrounding the College Football National Championship or you’re hoping to avoid the mess, a little information can help you avoid a big headache.
Some roads will be closed and parking will be at a premium.
The events mainly surround the Convention Center and Curtis Hixon Park, but traffic and parking shortages could be problem throughout downtown.
The Tampa Bay Sports Commission set up a website with everything you need to know surrounding the event, including the best travel routes, public transportation options and parking areas.
Fans can also sign up to receive text updates about traffic and other information surrounding the championship by texting “CFBPlayoff” to 888777.
The City of Tampa released the following information about road closures:
Cass Street from Doyle Carlton Drive to Ashley Drive as well as Franklin Street from Channelside Drive to Old Water Street will be closed during the downtown events listed with times below

- 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday
- Noon-8 p.m. Saturday
- Noon-8 p.m. Sunday
Playoff Playlist Live at Curtis Hixon Park
- 5 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday
- Noon-11 p.m. Saturday
- Noon-11 p.m. Sunday
- Ashley Drive will have the southbound outside lane closed until midnight Thursday.
- Gasparilla Plaza from Cass Street to Ashley Drive will be closed in both directions until midnight Tuesday.
- For the Extra Yard 5K from 6 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Sunday, Bayshore Boulevard will be closed in both directions from Howard Avenue to Brorein Street. The Platt Street Bridge/Channelside Drive will also be closed from Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street. Access to local business will be maintained on Platt Street to Bayshore Boulevard.
