Public Comments Wanted On Improvements To St. Pete Marina
The public is invited to share ideas and suggestions about the future of the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina Master Plan next Tuesday.
The Marina plans to replace their Central and South Yacht Basin Docks.
Marina and Port Manager Walt Miller said residents should be able to voice their opinions on it.
“We want to know what type of docks do they want, what type of amenities do they want, what kind of pricing are they willing to pay for, certain types of amenities and those kinds of things,” he said. “We want to be able to provide a top-notch facility and we want to make sure that the things that boaters want and need are indeed provided as much as possible so we can gain back some utilization and enjoyment from the facility.”
The current docks are between 40 and 50 years old. Miller said they’re too antiquated to handle the new boats that come in now.
This is the first step in rebuilding the docks and Miller said he hopes to begin building in 2019.
“Hopefully we’ll be done by the summer of 2020,” he said. “That is our goal, but there’s a lot that needs to go on between now and then.”
Two other community meetings are planned at later dates.
“We’re excited about bringing this new era to the Marina, to the city of St. Pete and hope will last another 40 to 50 years,” Miller said. “It’s an important project and it’s very exciting as we look into the future.”
The meeting is set for 5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Sunshine Center in St. Petersburg.
