'Alt For Norge' (Norway) Reality Star Retraces His Roots

The largely American phenomenon of “Reality TV," where people undergo outrageous challenges and tests of endurance has now taken hold... in Norway:

“When Henrietta came into the room, it was like, eewwww, because we were in this gross, smelly room, and I was half naked and there was stuff written all over me," says St. Petersburg resident Norris Comer, in part of his appearance as a contestant on Season 5 of a competition called "Alt For Norge" (All For Norway.)

Henrietta's reply? "It smells bad in here.”

“I didn’t think it was real life at first," Comer then says, "like, it’s gotta be a bad dream or something."

All for Norway is where Americans of Norwegian descent spend a month in Norway connecting with their heritage - and vying for a $50,000 prize.

He speaks with WUSF’s Lisa Peakes about his experience on the show from his vintage sailboat in the St. Petersburg marina.

Norris is hosting a screening of “All For Norway” in Miller Auditorium at Eckerd College Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.

In the meantime, check out his Facebook video.

Almost every day, I come before the microphone with the same enthusiasm as the Dani Rojas character in the “Ted Lasso” television series. I do 100 pushups, take some laps around the house, thank my supervisors and audience for giving me the opportunity to do what I love, bellow “Radio is liiiife” from the back steps, and bound back to my garret and get to work.
