Pablo Picasso Coming to Visit Salvador Dali
First it was Andy Warhol.
Now, it's Pablo Picasso's turn to come to Salvador Dali.
The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg is announcing the works of Dali's fellow Spanish master will be on display beginning in the fall. The collaboration is called “Picasso / Dalí, Dalí / Picasso.” The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, opens to the public November 8 and runs through February 16, 2015. The exhibit will then travel to the Museu Picasso in Barcelona in 2015.
Here's the release from the Dali Museum:
The exhibition “Picasso / Dalí, Dalí / Picasso” promises to be an international blockbuster for both museums as it will feature rarely loaned works from more than 25 international art museums and private collections worldwide pairing works of these leading artists of our era. Dozens of works – with a focus on paintings, and also featuring drawings, prints and sculpture – will be on display exclusively at The Dalí Museum St. Petersburg and the Museu Picasso, Barcelona. “This Picasso exhibition offers the possibility of rereading the relationship between two key figures of twentieth-century art and exploring new interpretations of the period in which their lives and works intersected,” explained Dalí Museum Director Dr. Hank Hine. “Both of our permanent collections are made up of works by arguably the two most influential 20th century Spanish artists. We are honored to collaborate with Barcelona’s Museu Picasso and our enduring partners at the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí.” The Dalí Museum will host a variety of fundraising events and private viewings starting November 1st and leading up to the public grand opening in St. Petersburg, FL on Saturday, November 8th at 10am. “Surprisingly, this is a part of history that has not been told before. As this exhibition will show, their fertile rapport produced some outstanding and crucial artworks for modern times.” said Museu Picasso’s Director Bernardo Laniado-Romero. This will be the second “blockbuster” exhibit in The Dalí Museum building, following the current Andy Warhol exhibit which is setting the tone for record visitation. Dalí Museum Marketing Director Kathy Greif commented that “Visitation during the Warhol show’s opening month was up more than 40% vs the same period last year. We anticipate the Picasso show will draw an even larger crowd during its three-month run.”
