The Alpha House of Tampa, a non-profit that serves pregnant women and their families in crisis, is holding its fourth-annual domestic violence awareness vigil tonight. This year's featured guest speaker is a local domestic and sexual abuse survivor, Valerie Miller.

She is a legal secretary at the county state attorney's office and has her own organization, Are You Safe?, which provides legal and social services to victims of domestic violence and promotes awareness and prevention.

"Valerie is an inspirational speaker who really, the way that I think she presents herself is she is equipped to break the chains of domestic violence and sexual abuse," said Barbara McCormick, director of programs at Alpha House.

The candlelight vigil will be held at the Alpha House at 6 p.m.
