Go nose to nose with Big John, the World’s Largest Triceratops, in an immersive and playful dinosaur exhibit at the Glazer Children’s Museum in Downtown Tampa. Whether you have a child at home or not, all are welcome to visit this colossal exhibit, 66 million years in the making.
Birds have mesmerized and inspired artists for centuries. Etched Feathers examines the works, and artistic processes, of John Costin and other bird artists and devotees, whose creations capture the essence of winged beauty. See this incredible exhibit from March 4 to Oct. 15 in the Wayne Thomas Gallery at the Tampa Bay History Center.
Rico Gatson is a multimedia visual artist whose work explores themes of history, identity, popular culture, and spirituality, through sculpture, painting, video, and public projects. In late May, Gatson will transform the walls of the USF Contemporary Art Museum with a kaleidoscopic, life-size image of Zora Neale Hurston—author, anthropologist, filmmaker, and former Florida resident—while exhibiting important paintings and works on paper, as well as a mini-survey of videos from 2001 to the present. Rico Gatson: Visible Time is curated by Christian Viveros-Fauné, CAM Curator-at-Large and organized by the USF Contemporary Art Museum.
PAVA (Professional Association of Visual Artists) will kick off the summer season with a photography-only exhibit at The Cool Art Shop in Dunedin running from Thursday, May 4th through Saturday, June 24th.
This curated exhibit will showcase an array of photographs in both color and black and white from locally and nationally acclaimed PAVA member photographers.
The opening reception will be held on Friday, May 5th from 6 p.m.-8:00 pm, and is open to the public.
The exhibit will be open Thursdays-Saturdays from 11am – 3 pm. Both the exhibit and reception will take place at The Cool Art Shop, located at 1240 County Road 1, Dunedin, Florida.
In addition to the photography exhibit, some of PAVA’s 3D (three dimensional) artists will be “making memories” by showcasing various artworks in the mediums of jewelry, metal, pottery, and other fine craft.
All of the photography and fine craft will be available for sale at the opening reception and during the shop’s normal business hours, Thursdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Experience Artwork from the Sixth Judicial Circuit Adult Drug/Veterans Treatment Court Exhibition. This exhibition will feature artwork on display in the Gallery at Creative Pinellas from participants in the Sixth Judicial Circuit Adult Drug/Veterans Treatment Court program who chose to complete the “Art Challenge” as part of their recovery process. These self-reflective works range from the intuitive to the highly trained; all providing a window into the highly personal work of recovery.
The Sixth Judicial Circuit Adult Drug Treatment Court is a court-supervised, comprehensive drug treatment court for eligible non-violent defendants. The program is voluntary and has many steps, including multiple appearances before the Adult Drug/Veterans Treatment Court Judge. In addition to treatment and testing, participants have the option of completing a variety of “challenges” to improve their mental and physical health. Veterans Treatment Court is very similar to Drug Court, but specific for veterans. The mission of Veterans Treatment Court is to divert veterans from jail and to provide help to overcome service-related substance abuse and mental health problems.
The Gallery at Creative Pinellas is open Wednesday-Sunday 12-5pm
