SunCoast Blood Centers, the region's local, community non-profit blood bank has an immediate need for blood to service the local hospitals in Sarasota, Manatee, DeSoto & Charlotte counties, along with the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa. As a member of the Blood Emergency Readiness Corp (BERC Network) we recently rushed much needed blood to hospitals in South Texas (scene of the tragic school schooling in Uvalde, TX). We’re expecting to have to make another shipment soon. This has impacted our local reserves which was critically low due to the national blood crisis. There’s an urgent and immediate need for O-Positive and O-Negative blood to service patients in our area. Please call 1-866-97-BLOOD to schedule your blood donation or on our website www.suncoastblood.org. Thank you for Giving Locally and Saving Globally!
Join me for the multimedia presentation based on my book about my uncle, one of Ringling’s most famous clowns. “Becoming FLO” is the inspiring true story of 16-year old Abraham, the Orthodox Jewish boy who fled home in 1920 from a homophobic, abusive father, joined a traveling circus, overcame anti-Semitism, found fame, and finally, in the safety of her circus family - found herself. FLO.
FLO’s remarkable story shines a light on courage in an era of intolerance, the power of art to transcend, and for those who struggle similarly, illuminates a way out.

The prolific Amiri Baraka once said, “There is no depth to education without art.” America experienced a racial awakening in 2020 as the Black Lives Matter movement forced the country to examine its complex relationship with race. Although “Dutchman” premiered almost 60 years ago during the height of the Civil Rights movement, this Obie Award winning masterpiece is a timeless play about race and identity in America focused on the political and psychological struggle between African Americans and White Americans… a story that is more timely now than ever before. Set in New York City, this provocative story challenges us to think about the part we all play in America’s problems with race. The New York Times said, “‘Dutchman’ endures because it resists simple allegory,” and The New Yorker said, “[Dutchman] remains as seditious today as it [ever] was.” American Stage is proud to present a contemporary, fresh interpretation of this soul-stirring American classic.
