Mosaic Company, which temporarily closed its Plant City phosphate processing plan at the end of 2017, is bringing its corporate headquarters to Hillsborough County.

The Mosaic Company, which already has a large presence in the Tampa Bay area, is moving its corporate headquarters to Hillsborough County.

The company has phosphate mines, warehouses and offices around Florida, along with an ammonia terminal in Tampa. It directly employs 3,000 people in the state, along with another 3,000 contractors.

Officials with Mosaic, which currently is based in Plymouth, MN, are not saying where in Hillsborough the new headquarters will be located. They're also not saying when the move will take place or how many employees will be relocated.

In an announcement, officials said the move will give them better access to the company's Brazilian operations. Mosaic recently bought Vale Fertilizantes, a purchase that doubled the size of Mosaic's workforce.

“Mosaic is among the largest employers and most significant corporate economic drivers in Central Florida,” said President and CEO Joc O’Rourke. “We believe locating our corporate office there will give us opportunities to amplify Mosaic’s presence and engage more closely with communities where we operate. With the cost savings we expect to achieve and the closer proximity to our Mosaic Fertilizantes business in Brazil, this move will drive improved efficiency and good value.”

Mosaic is the world’s largest combined producer of phosphates and potash, two vital plant nutrients. It temporarily closed its Plant City phosphate processing plant at the end of 2017 for at least one year.
