If you can’t join any Veterans Day events, no worries. You can still take a moment to show your gratitude for those who have served and those currently deployed. Here are a few suggestions that are good year-round.

  1. Fly an American flag at your home, on your vehicle or at your work space.
  2. Tweet a message to #ThankaVet and #VeteransDay.
  3. Join Team Red, White and Blue and enjoy a bike ride or run with a community of veterans, their families and citizens who meet for physical and social activities.
  4. Help collect the stories of veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
  5. Donate your airline mileage to the Hero Miles program for families of wounded military.
  6. Write a letter to a veteran, a wounded warrior or deployed military for distribution by Operation Gratitude.
  7. Read Veterans stories of struggle and success at VAntage  Point, the VA blog.
  8. Watch the HBO Documentary Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1 that premieres Nov. 11, at 9 p.m. EST.
  9. Visit a National Cemetery nearest you and participate in Wreaths Across America at a local site like Bushnell National Cemetery in Florida.
  10. Learn about post-traumatic stress and how to talk with veterans about their concerns through the VA Coaching Into Care program and the National Center for PTSD.

There are more than 100 ways to Thank a Veteran, take a moment, find one and just do it.
