State Regulators Approve Four New Disability Facilities
State health care regulators on Monday announced initial approval of four new intermediate-care facilities for people with developmental disabilities.
The Agency for Health Care Administration backed Sunrise Community’s plan to relocate 24 beds from a facility in Panama City and place them in four new 2,711-square-foot, six-bed facilities in Leon County.
The certificate of need, or CON, process is a key regulatory step for such facilities to move forward.
While the Legislature this spring approved eliminating certificates of need for new hospitals and certain hospital services, such as transplant programs, the state still requires CONs for nursing homes, hospices and intermediate-care facilities for people with developmental disabilities.
