Florida Rep. Peters Seek More Mental Health Funding

Saint Petersburg Rep. Kathleen Peters has filed legislation to increase mental health treatment. It adds certain mental health and substance abuse services to the state’s Medicaid program through a safety network.

Peters said mental health care should be fully funded.

“The governor’s absolutely right," she said. "We need to increase that funding by his recommendation, but that not enough. It’s absolutely not enough.”

Gov. Rick Scott has proposed an extra $25 million for mental and substance abuse treatment. The proposal also removes limits on Medicaid patients for services like group therapy and seeks matching federal funds.
