Iraqis Miss One Deadline, Set Another

Iraq's National Assembly has voted to extend its deadline to draft a constitution by one week. The extension was agreed to after Kurdish leaders requested more time, after feverish last-minute negotiations failed to resolve contentious issues.

The negotiators missed a midnight deadline to complete the draft. Key issues in the dispute were the role of Islamic law and regional autonomy.
