A man who fired a shot at anti-Nazi protesters following a speech at the University of Florida by a white nationalist has been charged with attempted murder, police in Gainesville said Friday. Two men who allegedly urged him to shoot face the same charge.

White-nationalist Richard Spencer brought his “alt-right” movement to the University of Florida Thursday, calling America a “white country,” but his message was drowned out.

Attempting to speak over the derisive shouts and chants from a diverse and hostile crowd at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Spencer and others attempted to preach about what they called the failure of diversity and the success of identity politics.

A brewery that was offering to give free beer to University of Florida students in exchange for tickets to a white nationalist event on campus has learned that the stunt won't work.

Agreement Could Be Near On White Nationalist Speech At UF

The University of Florida and representatives of white nationalist leader Richard Spencer are nearing an agreement that would allow Spencer to speak on campus, a lawyer representing Spencer and his backers said in an email Tuesday.

A Twitter profile called “Yes, You’re Racist” is asking the Internet to help identify people who participated in the marches in Charlottesville, Virginia and are believed to be white nationalists.

The result of this citizen brigade: some of the marchers are being named, threatened, and some are losing their jobs.

Florida Governor Rick Scott is repudiating President Donald Trump’s comments but not the president himself.  Trump in recent days has equated the actions of white nationalists with those of the men and women who marched in opposition.

A day after a rally of white nationalists turned violent in Charlottesville, Va., Gov. Terry McAuliffe said there is "no place" for such hateful people in the United States as he called on President Trump to more strongly condemn the perpetrators.
