Home shopping giant and one of the largest employers in St. Petersburg, HSN, is being bought out by its main competitor.

QVC’s parent company, Liberty Interactive, already owns 38 percent of HSN shares. With the new deal, however, the business once known as the Home Shopping Network will cede control of the remaining shares to the rival retail outlet.

The deal is reportedly worth $2.1 billion.

The University of South Florida Board of Trustees held its final scheduled meeting of 2016 in Tampa Thursday, and financial matters for students and System President Judy Genshaft were among the biggest items on the agenda.

The trustees approved a $168,875 bonus for Genshaft, which was doled out in two parts.

The building that will house University of South Florida St. Petersburg's College of Business will bear the name of a woman who worked her way up in a Tampa Bay corporation from payroll clerk to Chief Financial Officer.

Now that the Florida Board of Governors has moved the University of South Florida's request for $57 million for a new downtown Tampa medical school over to state legislators and Governor Rick Scott, the university is looking at other expansion priorities.

While the USF Saint Petersburg Kate Tiedemann College of Business took a new name and broke ground on a new building - things we'll discuss on next week's University Beat - the College of Business on the Tampa campus also has a new name.
