Forty-nine people died in the Pulse nightclub mass shooting in Orlando in 2016, but new information indicates that 16 of those victims may have been able to survive their injuries -- if they'd been treated sooner.

Robin Sussingham talks to John Montes, an Emergency Services Specialist with the National Fire Protection Association about the NFPA's new standards for first responders.


The Orlando Fire Department had been working on a plan to respond to a mass shooting. It had even purchased vests filled with tourniquets and special needles to relieve bleeding in the chest. But at the time of the Pulse nightclub shooting, the plan had already sputtered and the vests sat untouched.

The city of Orlando is asking a federal judge to dismiss a civil rights lawsuit that was filed on behalf of victims and survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting.

The Town of Eatonville has denied a disability pension for a Pulse first responder with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The foundation that's building a memorial at the site of the Pulse shooting in Orlando has issued a request for design ideas to help honor the 49 patrons who were killed at the gay nightclub.

Forty nine people died and dozens were injured in the Pulse nightclub shooting two years ago. Not counted in the total are some of the first responders who are now struggling with PTSD after witnessing the scene.

It’s now been two years after the Pulse nightclub mass shooting that left 49 people dead in Orlando. U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) says it’s time Congress acts on bipartisan gun reform legislation.

On the morning of June 12, 2016, police officer Omar Delgado pulled his cruiser up to his two-story townhome in Sanford and sat in silence for 15 minutes, trying to process what he had seen during 3 1/2 hours inside the Pulse nightclub.

A federal jury has found Noor Salman, the widow of the Pulse gunman, not guilty on all charges.

Salman faced charges of providing material support to a terrorist organization and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors said she knew about her husband’s plans for the 2016 mass shooting in Orlando that killed 49 people.

The gunman who killed 49 people in the Pulse nightclub attack was shot and killed hours afterward. Now, nearly two years later, his widow is being held accountable, charged with helping her husband plan the attack.

Construction will begin to improve a temporary memorial for the 49 people killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando as plans for a permanent museum continue underway.

The owner of Pulse says it’s “unimaginable” a mass shooting of greater scope has taken place in Las Vegas.

Barbara Poma is calling for prayers for the dead and also for the wounded and hundreds of others affected by the massacre.

She also is demanding more work to stop such crimes.

“Finding words to convey the depth of horror we are all witnessing in Las Vegas is just impossible,” she says in a statement.

A British conglomerate being sued by survivors of the Florida nightclub shooting says it had nothing to do with the gunman's "terrible actions," according to a response to the lawsuit filed this week.

It’s been a year since 49 people died in a mass shooting at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando.

It happened in a city best known as a wholesome family vacation destination, but one that has also unofficially been host for the past 25 years to Disney’s Gay Days. That event attracts about 150,000 people a year to local attractions, hotels, restaurants and clubs.

Ricardo Negon never kissed his boyfriend in front of conservative relatives. Carlos Guillermo Smith was once attacked by anti-gay students at a college party. After coming out in high school, Marco Quiroga left his mother's home and became temporarily homeless.

As a law enforcement foundation reviews how the Orlando Police Department responded to a 2016 mass shooting at a gay nightclub, the organization's staffers say in a paper that police training and protocols may need to change.

Authorities have arrested the wife of the gunman in the Pulse nightclub shooting. Noor Salman was arrested in California.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina said in a statement that the FBI took Salman into custody on charges of Aiding and Abetting by providing material support to a terrorist organization and Obstruction of Justice.

There was a collective gasp among the elected officials, first responders and reporters gathered around Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer when he announced that 49 patrons and a gunman were dead from an assault at an Orlando gay nightclub on "Latin Night" in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

The massacre at Pulse nightclub in June was voted Florida's biggest story of 2016 in an Associated Press poll of the state's newspaper editors.

Orlando To Buy Pulse Nightclub, Turn It Into Memorial

The city of Orlando has announced plans to purchase the Pulse nightclub and eventually convert the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history into a memorial.

Fifty people, including the gunman, died in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016, and Florida gun control advocates hoped lawmakers would be compelled to propose stricter gun laws. They urged a special legislative session.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office released another batch of 911 calls Wednesday from the shooting at Pulse nightclub.

The calls released show the high number of calls coming in. Orange County dispatchers were unable to patch many of the calls through to Orlando Police dispatchers.

A fund for the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando contains more than $26 million in donations.


  Gerry Realin spent four hours with the dead inside of Pulse Night Club.

He remembers the blood. The smell. The scene was so bad, the eight-member Hazmat team wouldn’t let any other officers help them remove the bodies. That way fewer people had to witness what they saw.

Two months after a gunman killed dozens inside an Orlando nightclub, the sound of popping balloons prompted shoppers to frantically flee an Orlando mall, injuring nine.

Mario Perez was grazed by a bullet inside Pulse Night Club. In addition to the physical and psychological recovery from that experience, he’s had another worry: The uninsured Miami resident was told his bill from Orlando Regional Medical Center would be $20,000.
