A cancer doctor in Florida has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for using unauthorized and misbranded drugs for her patients.

More than 80 people in Florida were charged in a nationwide crackdown on health care fraud and opioid scams that totaled $1.3 billion in falls billings, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

A businessman accused of orchestrating a $1 billion Medicare and Medicaid fraud scheme in South Florida will be staying in jail until his trial.

Medicare Scam Fugitive Now Most Wanted

 A Miami man has been added to federal health officials' list of most wanted fugitives.

Sandy De La Fe was indicted last year on charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and health care fraud. Investigators say De La Fe owned a Miami pharmacy and participated in a prescription drug fraud scheme that bilked Medicare out of millions of dollars.
