The University of South Florida's efforts to give students the skills they need to start their own businesses continue to gain attention, with both the College of Business and a nonprofit started by a graduate in his dorm room receiving separate national honors this week.

First, the Princeton Review ranked USF's graduate program 13th among the nation's best entrepreneurship education programs.

1 Million Cups: The Perfect Place For Entrepreneurs

The Greenhouse in St. Petersburg helps grow entrepreneurs. Every Wednesday morning, a group called 1 Million Cups meets to give entrepreneurs the chance to pitch their ideas, mold their businesses and get a free cup of coffee. 

After Black Friday has come and gone, a new shopping day arrives: Small Business Saturday.

Small-business owners hope that after you've spent time at the big-box stores and the mall, you'll spend money with the mom-and-pops in your neighborhood.

The idea for the day came out of a committee at American Express in 2010, after the depths of the recession. AmEx President Ed Gilligan loved the idea of creating a new holiday.

Startup Weekend Tampa Bay

For 54 hours starting Friday night, local entrepreneurs, developers and designers will match wits to see who can create the best new business at Startup Weekend Tampa Bay.

It's the fourth local version of an international event that's been held in over 200 cities around the world, but the first time it's taking place in St. Petersburg.

Give Reuben Pressman and Hunter Payne enough rope and they'll put up a swing for you, pretty much anywhere you want - and some places you never even thought of!

But now the pair of students behind Swings Tampa Bay need some help from the public - they're literally running out of rope just as they're planning to take their show on the road.
