Clearwater was one of the most honest among top-ranked cities in the U.S., earning an honesty rating of 97 percent, tied with six other cities including Detroit, Louisville, Ky. and Santa Monica, Calif.

A day after confusion reigned during multiple shooting incidents on Clearwater Beach, law enforcement officials are still sorting out all the details as to what exactly happened.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Clearwater Police officials said they and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office each took five people into custody (ten total) Monday night. Each department ended up charging two of the men (four total) and releasing everyone else.

UPDATE at 9:30 a.m. May 27:
The Tampa Bay Times reports four people have formally been charged in connection with three separate shooting incidents on Clearwater Beach on Monday night that left two wounded.

Police have charged Jerry L. Holmes, 31, with shooting into an occupied structure. Terrance Antonio Kirnes, 20, was charged with resisting an officer without violence.

Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard is closed at U.S. 19 in Clearwater after officials said a truck hit the overpass.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the truck damaged a bridge girder when it hit the overpass.

Officials said the steel girder, which weighs about 70 tons and was part of the old bridge, is now hanging and needs to be removed.

Engineers will remove all four girders on the old U.S. 19 bridge over Gulf-to-Bay over the next 24 to 48 hours.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

National Trust for Historic Preservation

The future of one of the largest wooden structures in the world will be decided Tuesday. Belleview Biltmore hotel near Clearwater is up for demolition if a rezoning measure is approved.

The Belleview Biltmore Hotel, built in 1897, hosted business giants, local socialites and even presidents back in the day. It closed in 2009 for renovations but with the housing market crash it never reopened.

Now, a rezoning measure would allow developers to bulldoze it and build condos in its place.

UPDATE AT 10:25 A.M.: Federal officials, along with local law enforcement, continue investigating a single-engine plane crash in Clearwater that killed an Illinois man and injured his daughter and her friend early Saturday morning.

Pinellas County Sheriff's officials say the plane, a 1980 Piper, took off from Chicago around 6:30 p.m. Friday evening and was headed to St. Pete/Clearwater International Airport. It crashed around 4 a.m. Saturday, coming to rest in the median of McMullen Booth Road just north of Union Street.

Winter the Dolphin may soon have a new home. Clearwater voters decided to lease the property where City Hall currently stands to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which plans to build a new waterfront aquarium.

The Tampa Bay Times reports the unofficial vote of 55 percent to 45 percent allows the city to change its charter and begin raising $160.5 million for the new building.

Clearwater police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident that knocked a young couple riding a tandem bicycle 50 feet, leaving one dead and the other in a coma. Christopher Patrick Weed came forward Tuesday, telling police he blacked out on his way home from work and has no idea how the windshield of his truck got knocked out, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Police charged him with two felony counts of leaving the crash scene.
