University of South Florida St. Petersburg Regional Chancellor Sophia Wisniewska is out after four years on the job. 

USF President Judy Genshaft never mentioned Wisniewska in a statement she sent to USFSP faculty and students Saturday afternoon:

Next summer, a group of marine researchers and local politicians who gathered at a Tarpon Springs shipyard for a ceremonial keel laying plan to return for the dedication of a new research ship.

With the touching of a blow torch to the keel Wednesday morning, construction formally began on the 78-foot vessel at Duckworth Steel Boats.

Penn State Brandywine (PA)

Sophia T. Wisniewska, the chancellor of Penn State Brandywine, has been named the new regional chancellor of USF St. Petersburg.

According to a press release from USF News, the scholar of Russian language and literature held a number of leadership positions in the Penn State System. She also served as dean and CEO at Temple University Ambler for six years.

USF Saint Petersburg

Three finalists have been named to become USF Saint Petersburg's regional chancellor, and the man currently filling the seat is not among them.

The Tampa Bay Times reports interim Chancellor Bill Hogarth was among the six candidates interviewed for the position this week. However, the director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography did not receive enough votes from the advisory committee.

A team of USF researchers and officials, led by Dr. William Hogarth, are among the recipients of Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Tampa Bay's STEM Catalyst Collaborative Partnerships Award.

USF St. Petersburg is one step closer to finding its next regional chancellor, as the pool of candidates is now down to six.

According to USF St. Pete News, the Search Advisory Committee will interview the remaining candidates in person at Tampa International Airport January 28th & 29th.

USF Saint Petersburg

USF President Judy Genshaft has named William Hogarth as interim regional chancellor of the University of South Florida St. Petersburg and appointed Frank A. Biafora, dean of the USFSP College of Arts and Sciences, to lead a search committee for a new regional chancellor.

Hogarth, currently director of the Florida Institute of Oceanography, will assume duties at USFSP on Aug. 6 while continuing his leadership of the marine science consortium. A national search is underway for a new regional chancellor following the resignation of USFSP Regional Chancellor Margaret Sullivan.
