Two of Florida's top Republican leaders are immediate political beneficiaries of Donald Trump's surprising but decisive presidential victory Tuesday.

Florida taxpayers are on the hook for almost $500,000 in fees to lawyers who successfully challenged the state's prohibition against same-sex marriage.

A revamped proposal that would legalize marijuana for patients with certain medical conditions is in the hands of the Florida Supreme Court, which will decide if the ballot initiative meets the criteria to go before voters next year.

Florida law enforcement officers provided around-the-clock security for Attorney General Pam Bondi for six weeks this year due to a threat that is still under investigation.

Authorities had not previously acknowledged the threat until today. That’s because a new report released by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement showed the state had spent more than $216,000 on providing security for Bondi this past year.

FDLE officials would not provide any details about the threat but called it “credible.” They provided security for Bondi from late May until early July.
